The hit Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building,” now in its fourth season, has finally unveiled the identity of Sazz Pataki’s killer. Starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, the show continues to deliver episodes filled with unexpected twists, A-list guest appearances, and comedic brilliance (think: Meryl Streep/Melissa McCarthy: Smackdown 2024). If you’re yet to dive into Season 4, here’s a quick rundown of what you need to know before you start streaming. Spoilers ahead for the Season 4 finale of “Only Murders in the Building.”

This season’s central victim, Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), was the dedicated stunt double for Steve Martin’s character, Charles-Haden Savage, a former TV detective. After ten episodes of misleading clues, intricate murder boards, and romantic subplots (yes, romance), “OMITB” wrapped up the loose ends within the Arconia—the show’s iconic apartment building—and answered the season’s burning questions. Not just ‘who is the killer?’ but also, “was there more than one killer?” and, “was Charles the intended target?”

Here’s a summary of everything revealed in “OMITB” Season 4, episode 10, titled “My Best Friend’s Wedding”—covering the who, what, when, and why. The killer turned out to be Marshall P. Pope (Jin Ha), the screenwriter behind the “Only Murders in the Building” movie adaptation of the podcast (within the show). However, Pope is a fraud; his real identity is Rex Bailey, a former stuntman whom Sazz mentored until his stunt mishap involving Ron Howard’s eyebrows made him persona non grata in the stunt world.

As revealed in episode 9, the “Only Murders” movie script that attracted Hollywood’s attention was actually written by Sazz as a tribute to her long-time friend, Charles. Bailey, who turned to stunt work after failing as a writer, stole Sazz’s script and created the alter ego Marshall P. Pope to claim the work as his own. When Sazz discovered Bailey’s deception, she confronted him, explaining she would never have sold the script without Charles’ approval. Enraged and disheartened, Sazz threatened to expose Bailey’s actions to Charles, effectively ruining his career. Unfortunately, Bailey killed Sazz before she could carry out her threat.

Sazz was the first victim of Season 4, but not the last. Glen Stubbins (Paul Rudd), the stunt double for Season 3’s victim, Ben Glenroy (also Paul Rudd), met his end in the penultimate episode. Pope/Bailey confessed in the finale that he killed Stubbins because the Irishman could have identified him as the stuntperson who Sazz confided in would be her downfall. Pope/Bailey is ultimately shot and killed by Jan Bellows (Amy Ryan), the killer from Season 1, who had a romantic history with both Charles and Sazz.

Season 4 cleverly played on the connection between Charles and Sazz to mislead viewers. Sazz, who always dressed like Charles, was found murdered in Charles’ apartment, leading to speculation about Charles’ involvement. However, this was a red herring; Sazz was the intended target. Despite Oliver’s panic, his and Loretta’s wedding proceeded smoothly. Loretta survived and, after a brief honeymoon in the Arconia, Oliver saw her off as she left for New Zealand, where her TV show is now filming. Oliver promised to join her in a few weeks, even though it means leaving his podcasting friends behind. Yes, “OMITB” has been renewed for a fifth season. The central victim of Season 5 will be Lester, the Arconia’s doorman, played by Teddy Coluca.

As Charles, Oliver, and Mabel believe they’ve solved one murder without uncovering another, they find Lester’s blood-soaked body in the Arconia’s courtyard fountain—the same place where Oliver and Loretta got married and Lester exchanged vows. The Season 4 finale of “Only Murders in the Building” is now available on Hulu.
