OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed his confidence on Sunday that the incoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump would support the artificial intelligence sector, ensuring that the United States and its allies maintain their leadership in this field. Speaking to Fox News, a conservative US broadcaster, Altman emphasized the need for substantial infrastructure support for AI technology and believed that Trump would excel in providing it.

"We must construct this infrastructure here and ensure we have the best AI infrastructure globally to lead with our technology and capabilities," he stated. "I am confident that President-elect Trump will handle this effectively." Altman was addressing concerns about the US's competition with China in AI, reinforcing the idea that "the United States and our allies must take the lead in this area."

The infrastructure required for AI technology includes vast amounts of electricity, extensive data centers, and technological support through access to advanced semiconductors and computer chips. Altman also highlighted the necessity for the US Congress to enact legislation that establishes safeguards for the use of artificial intelligence.

"I believe this is a matter for society to decide, not just OpenAI. It should not be up to us alone to determine how technologies like ChatGPT are used or not used," he responded when asked about the timing and form of such legislation.

OpenAI's prominence has soared in recent years as it has emerged as a key player in the expanding field of artificial intelligence. In a recent development, billionaire Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but has since departed, reportedly asked a US court to prevent the company from transitioning into a for-profit entity.
