As Season 14 approaches in December for Overwatch 2, Blizzard is set to reintroduce 6v6 matches through two distinct tests. The original Overwatch featured these team sizes, but the sequel stirred controversy by shifting to 5v5 competitions. Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller outlined the forthcoming 6v6 experiments on the game's official site. The initial test is slated to commence during the first week of Season 14, launching on December 10, and will mandate team compositions of 'at least 1 of each role, and no more than 3.' Midway through Season 14, Overwatch 2 will then trial 'the classic 2-2-2 composition' with some modifications.

Keller elucidated that these Season 14 tests, along with others in the pipeline, aim to 'not only gauge our players' interest in larger team sizes but also to explore various methods of implementation without encountering the same issues we faced previously.' There appears to be significant deliberation regarding 6v6 in Overwatch 2. For instance, Keller previously could not envision both 5v5 and 6v6 coexisting in the sequel. However, he is now receptive to the idea.

The revival of 6v6 for Overwatch 2 was first mooted in July. Meanwhile, earlier this month, Overwatch 2 kicked off Season 13: Spellbinder, accompanied by substantial changes to Sombra. The hero shooter also introduced a new Halloween mode called Junkenstein's Laboratory, available until November 4. A recent report hinted at an Overwatch mobile project in development—or at least it was at one point. For further insights, consult GameSpot's Overwatch 2 review.
