Hussain Muhammad, the Consul-General of Pakistan in Dubai, emphasized that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's productive visit to the UAE in May 2024 aimed to attract investment, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to strengthen bilateral ties.
Muhammad noted that Pakistan, with its population exceeding 245 million, presents a robust and expansive consumer market, particularly benefiting from a growing middle class. He also mentioned the significant presence of approximately 80% of the 1.7 million Pakistani nationals in Dubai and Northern Emirates, which plays a crucial role in enhancing Pakistan's economic and national image in the UAE.
Regarding the welfare of the Pakistani community, Muhammad highlighted the establishment of a Welfare Committee at the consulate, which collaborates with local authorities to assist nationals in resolving issues related to financial obligations, judicial remedies, and immigration penalties. The consulate also engages with philanthropist bodies and local entities to support diaspora-related welfare activities.
Muhammad addressed the challenges faced by the consulate, including the need to educate the unskilled/semi-skilled Pakistani expat community about local laws and regulations. He also discussed Pakistan's liberal visa policy, which allows UAE nationals to obtain visas online within 48 hours, promoting tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries.
The Commercial Section of the consulate plays a crucial role in fostering economic and trade ties between the UAE and Pakistan, facilitating B2B meetings, providing market research, and supporting trade promotion and export activities. It also assists in investment facilitation and policy advocacy.
Regarding education, the consulate works with Pakistani schools in Dubai and Northern Emirates to improve education standards and infrastructure, with ongoing efforts to meet the growing demand for educational facilities.
The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai serves over 1.5 million Pakistanis across six UAE states, offering various services including legal assistance, a call center, and welfare services. Digitalization efforts have been implemented to enhance service delivery, including a new website with features like an automated reply service on WhatsApp.
On the occasion of Pakistan's 78th Independence Day, Muhammad extended his congratulations to the Pakistani community in the UAE, urging them to uphold the laws and traditions of their host country while celebrating their heritage and contributing positively to the UAE's diverse society.
