A Pakistani government team has successfully mediated a seven-day ceasefire agreement between opposing sectarian factions on Sunday, according to team members. This agreement puts an end to days of violent clashes that have resulted in at least 68 fatalities and numerous injuries in the northwest region. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister and government spokesperson Muhammad Ali Saif informed Reuters that both Shi'ite and Sunni leaders have consented to suspend hostilities. These attacks began following an assault on convoys of civilian vehicles on Thursday, which led to the deaths of at least 40 individuals, predominantly Shi'ite Muslims.
