Pakistani counter-terrorism officials have detained Amin ul Haq, an Al-Qaeda leader, who is described as a close associate of the late Osama Bin Laden, the architect of the 9/11 attacks in the United States. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Punjab, the country's most populous province, announced that it has filed a legal case against ul Haq, accusing him of planning acts of sabotage against key installations in the province.
"In a major advancement in the battle against terrorism, the CTD, in cooperation with intelligence agencies, has successfully arrested Amin ul Haq, a high-ranking member of Al-Qaeda," stated the department's spokesperson in a release. Bin Laden was eliminated in 2011 during a U.S. operation at his hideout in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.
