Paris Olympics boxing champion Imane Khelif, the Algerian embroiled in a gender eligibility dispute, has lodged a legal complaint in France against online harassment, according to her attorney.

"The boxer Imane Khelif has chosen to initiate a fresh battle, one for justice, dignity, and honor," stated Nabil Boudi, who revealed that Khelif had submitted the complaint for "aggravated online harassment... to Paris prosecutors".

The gender controversy flared up in the French capital after Khelif triumphed over Angela Carini in just 46 seconds during her preliminary bout, with the Italian in tears and withdrawing from the contest due to a severely injured nose. Khelif secured gold on Friday, achieving a unanimous points victory against China's Yang Liu in the women's 66kg final, marking her inaugural Olympic medal.
