Path of Exile 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the immensely popular RPG that debuted in 2013. Given that the original game was released over a decade ago, it's understandable that it lacks some contemporary features expected in today's gaming landscape. One notable absence is cross-play functionality, which has never been implemented in the original Path of Exile. However, the developers at Grinding Gear Games have announced that Path of Exile 2 will include cross-play support. You can find detailed information on how this feature operates and the steps required to utilize it in the guide below.

Grinding Gear Games is taking a different approach with Path of Exile 2 compared to its predecessor. The forthcoming sequel will offer full cross-play capabilities, allowing players to join forces regardless of the platform they are using. For instance, if you're on a PC and wish to team up with someone on an Xbox One, you can seamlessly form a party. This interoperability extends to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S users, as well as any other platform combinations. Path of Exile 2 is slated for initial release on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Should additional platforms be introduced in the future, cross-platform support is expected to encompass those as well.

To play with a friend, simply add them in Path of Exile 2 using their username. If your friend is on the same platform, they can join you via your system's friends list, in addition to the game's internal friends list. Once connected, you can either invite them to your party or join theirs. Path of Exile 2 accommodates up to six players per party. Cross-play support also extends to trading, meaning you can trade items with players on different platforms without any issues.

In addition to cross-play, Grinding Gear Games has confirmed that Path of Exile 2 will feature cross-save support, also known as cross-progression, during its early access launch. This means players can access their saved data on any platform, ensuring continuity of progress. For example, if you primarily play on a PlayStation 5 but need to switch to a PC, you can do so without losing your account's progress.

Path of Exile 2 is scheduled to enter early access on December 6. If you're eager for something to play sooner, explore our gallery of November's most exciting games.
