Grinding Gear Games has revealed that the early access launch of Path of Exile 2 has been postponed from November 15 to December 6. This delay is attributed to ongoing server-side infrastructure work that is taking longer than initially expected.
According to game director Jonathan Rogers, the studio is committed to ensuring that microtransactions from the first game will carry over to the second. This requires not only the construction of new systems but also the verification of backward compatibility with the old data from the first game. Additionally, the developers must conduct load testing to guarantee the game's stability at launch.
Rogers further explained that while the original launch date could have been met, it would have likely resulted in errors. 'We need to get everything flawless so that no one loses what they've paid for, and no one experiences account issues,' he stated in a video. A livestream is planned in approximately four weeks to showcase what players can anticipate during the early access period.
Path of Exile 2 is a top-down action role-playing game featuring 12 distinct character classes. The storyline comprises six acts, and the endgame offers over 100 maps, each with unique boss fights and modifiers. The game will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Originally intended as an expansion of the first game, Path of Exile 2 will introduce new features such as local couch co-op, cross-play, and cross-progression.
