With only a few hours remaining before the servers go live, Path of Exile 2 has surpassed 1 million players who have already purchased early-access editions of the game. Developer Grinding Gear Games admitted they 'never expected' such high numbers and are now cautioning players about potential queue times over the weekend. On X, the official Path of Exile account shared that they wanted 'to be upfront with you all' regarding the current situation for the action-RPG. Path of Exile 2 director Jonathan Rogers addressed the matter in a video, stating, 'There are probably going to be some queues during the launch weekend.'
Rogers mentioned that the team has increased cloud capacity due to the rising download numbers for Path of Exile 2. However, the director remains uncertain about how the backend services will handle the surge of players at launch. 'We never expected things to go this big during [early access],' Rogers acknowledged. Early access for Path of Exile 2 is set to unlock at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET today, December 6, following the preloading that started earlier this week. The early-access price is $30 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a full release anticipated in 2025.
Initially, Path of Exile 2's early access was planned for mid-November but was postponed. Interestingly, the delay was due to server-side infrastructure issues. Console players have a special feature to look forward to: couch co-op with cross-progression.
