Outriders and Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly has announced that it has laid off 120 employees and scaled back some of its self-publishing projects. In a statement on Twitter, People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski explained, "Today, we made a very difficult decision to reduce our self-publishing strategy by suspending Project Victoria, scaling down our team Project Bifrost, and restructuring some of our supporting teams at People Can Fly." He attributed the layoffs to the external pressures of the video game industry, which had persisted beyond the studio's initial forecasts. Consequently, the studio is now focusing on new work-for-hire engagements and concentrating on the development of a single independent game.
In 2023, People Can Fly confirmed that it was in the pre-production phase for three games: Project Dagger, Project Bifrost, and Project Victoria. All three were set to be self-published and launch between 2025-2026. However, Project Dagger was canceled earlier this year in April, and it now appears that Bifrost and Victoria are facing challenges, if not outright cancellation. People Can Fly is also involved in several other projects, including Project Gemini with Square Enix, scheduled for a 2026 release, and Project Red, which is currently in the concept stage. Additionally, the studio is collaborating with Microsoft on a mystery IP called Project Maverick.
