Dubai Golden VISA recipient Peter Cowen, the most successful tournament coach in golf history, shares his Daily Diary from the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
The 'Moving Day' at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links was anything but, with no significant shifts on the leaderboard. Dubai's Paul Waring remains at the top, though he admits to a subpar performance with a round three score of 73. None of the star players made notable progress, which was quite surprising. Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and Robert MacIntyre all shot 69, while Shane Lowry excelled with a 66.
I was pleased with the performance of my three students: Joaquin Niemann shot a 66 to reach 12 under, Guido Migliozzi a 69 to be eight under, and Grant Forrest a 65 to be five under. Proud as a coach, it seems my players are heeding my advice, as usual!
There's still everything to play for, with several players in contention who haven't been in this position before in their careers. Tomorrow presents life-changing opportunities: winning a Rolex Series event brings significant rewards, including money, OWGR points, Race to Dubai points, Ryder Cup points, and more. Additionally, getting into the top 50 of the Race to Dubai by the end of the week could secure a spot in next week’s DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates, and the top 10 players without PGA Tour cards could earn full playing privileges for the 2025 season.
The final round promises to be intriguing, especially with the pressure factor in play. Will a newcomer rise to the challenge, or will a seasoned pro show the way? Tomorrow, I will head to Dubai and Emirates Golf Club to meet with my Peter Cowen Academy coaches and check on my Academy at EGC on the range. Decisions need to be made about the soft and formal openings. I will also connect with my players and prepare for another big week at Jumeirah Golf Estates, where the season-ending $10 million DP World Tour Championship will take place.
Just a reminder – I am still on #59Watch.
