With Phasmophobia now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the developers have shared their future plans for the co-op ghost-hunting game. One notable absence from these plans is a crossover with iconic franchises like Ghostbusters, as the developers currently have no intention of incorporating licensed content.

"I think it's something we’ve seen from the community, whether you look at the Discord, at the Reddit, at the socials, people are talking about it, asking for that kind of stuff," Phasmophobia marketing manager Asim Tanvir told VideoGamer. "Again, it's about the demand from the playerbase, the community, for that, and it's about whether it falls in line with our vision for the game as well. We don’t want to put--for example--the actual Ghostbusters in the game. It just wouldn’t make sense. That's not the tonal shift we want from our game, right?"

Tanvir did hint that certain IPs might be a good fit and that future developments could occur if Kinetic Games changes its stance, but for now, the focus remains on delivering fresh content to the playerbase. Phasmophobia gained significant popularity when it initially launched on PC in 2020, providing excellent entertainment during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic through both gameplay and streams.

The studio recently discussed with GameSpot how Phasmophobia continues to excel in delivering terror years later. For those seeking a Ghostbusters experience, there are existing options. Ghostbusters: The Video Game was remastered for consoles a few years back, and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed offers an action-packed multiplayer game centered around paranormal extermination. PlayStation console owners who are PS Plus Extra or Premium subscribers can currently find it in the game catalog.
