Four years after its initial PC release, Kinetic Games' terrifying multiplayer experience, Phasmophobia, has finally made its way to consoles, allowing PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S users to join in on the fun of screaming uncontrollably while their friends laugh through the mic. The thrill of Ghost Huntin' is now accessible to everyone.
Phasmophobia, which debuted in September 2020 and won Best Debut Game just three months later, now supports cross-play alongside its console launch, enabling players to confront the supernatural (or flee from it) with friends across any platform. The console release coincides with a new game update called Crimson Eye, available for all platforms, which includes the return of a heart-pounding seasonal event, bug fixes, and quality-of-life enhancements.
"Last October, ghost hunters conjured the Blood Moon using a mysterious cauldron. This year, the Blood Moon is back and more intense than ever," the game's website states in a recent blog post. "Paranormal energy has surged in several locations, introducing a new weather type, The Blood Moon. Venture into these cursed areas, complete investigations, optional objectives, and photograph any Blood Altars to earn Blood Points. Collaborate with the Ghost Huntin' Community to gather Blood Points and unlock new rewards. Beware, during the Blood Moon, ghosts are more powerful and formidable."
The blog post also mentions that accessing the Blood Moon (and all future seasonal or temporary events) requires an online connection, even for solo players. This is due to the technical changes associated with temporary events, ensuring that Kinetic Games can monitor event progress and make necessary adjustments on their cloud servers.
The Crimson Eye update introduces an Event Board to the Warehouse, featuring leaflets for current in-game events and challenges, allowing players to track their progress individually. The game's photo cork board has been relocated to the truck inside the Warehouse to accommodate the new Event Board, which is positioned between the truck and the Warehouse's door. The Event Board currently includes two new challenges: Ranger Challenge and Sunny Meadows Survival.
Other enhancements include a physics upgrade that makes doors less frustrating. Moving doors can no longer shove players aside, and doors can no longer be dislodged from their hinges. Additionally, players can no longer be pushed through walls or other solid objects, and those experiencing low frame rates can breathe a sigh of relief as the floor in Point Hope has been reinforced to prevent accidental clipping.
