Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos disclosed that he had a 'very friendly' phone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday, emphasizing his commitment to fortifying the alliance between the two nations. Marcos described the call with Trump as 'very friendly' and 'very productive,' as he shared with reporters during a visit to Catanduanes island, which was devastated by a super typhoon on Saturday.

'We discussed... the alliance between the United States and the Philippines. And I conveyed to him our ongoing desire to enhance that relationship between our two countries, which is as profound as it can be due to its long-standing history,' Marcos stated.

Manila and Washington have been long-standing treaty allies, and their bond has grown stronger since Marcos assumed office in 2022, particularly in response to China's claims over the South China Sea. Marcos, along with other global leaders, publicly congratulated Trump on his victory in the recent US presidential election, aiming to establish a positive rapport with the incoming administration.

Marcos further noted that he believed Trump was 'pleased to hear from the Philippines.' He concluded his remarks with a Facebook post featuring a photo of himself seated at a desk flanked by two Christmas trees, speaking into his smartphone.

'The overwhelming support of Filipinos in the United States for your triumphant win is a testament to the deep and enduring friendship between our nations,' Marcos remarked.
