A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant was apprehended by Customs officials at Allama Iqbal International Airport for attempting to smuggle foreign currency. The suspect was removed from her flight after being suspected, and Customs officials discovered 140,000 Saudi riyals ($37,000) hidden in her socks. The flight attendant was found to be carrying US dollars and Saudi riyals, totaling millions of Pakistani rupees, which she had concealed in various parts of her body.
The incident occurred as the flight attendant was preparing to board a PIA flight from Lahore to Jeddah. Alert Customs officials, in cooperation with FIA immigration, prevented her from boarding the flight. A thorough search revealed the concealed riyals and US dollars. Following the registration of a case, she was transferred to the investigation team. The Deputy Collector of Customs emphasized that stringent measures are in place to combat currency smuggling, including zero-tolerance policies and comprehensive checking protocols.
According to local media, intelligence reports about the smuggling of Saudi riyals led to a thorough inspection of the national airline's crew, highlighting the authorities' dedication to preventing such occurrences and ensuring public safety.
