The Italians excel in crafting convertibles, as evidenced by the Pininfarina Battista Targamerica, an open-top variant of the electric hypercar, set to debut on Thursday during Monterey Car Week. The Targamerica is a bespoke creation for a discerning Pininfarina client who already possesses a Battista coupe. While this isn't the first convertible from modern Automobili Pininfarina—the B95 Speedster holds that distinction—it is the first open-top version of the Battista. One might question why the Battista wasn't initially designed as a convertible.
Remarkably, the Targamerica transitioned from idea to reality in just one year, with the client commissioning the vehicle at last year's Monterey Car Week. Its livery, featuring silver with blue accents, honors the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider, another bespoke Pininfarina convertible crafted for Gianni Angelli, a prominent Fiat heir. The Targamerica also boasts a unique rear decklid and doors, which in the coupe are part of the roof structure. Additionally, a cigar humidor is integrated between the seats, catering to the client's fondness for cigars.
As a brief recap, the Battista is the product of Automobili Pininfarina, a German-based subsidiary of the renowned Italian design firm, owned by India's Mahindra Group. The Battista shares its foundation with the Rimac Nevera hypercar and delivers an impressive 1,900 horsepower from its four electric motors. Automobili Pininfarina will showcase the Targamerica at The Quail on Friday, after which the client will receive the vehicle. The automaker has not disclosed plans for additional Battista convertibles, but it is speculated that this may not be the final one.
