After releasing the highest-grossing animated movie of all time this summer with Inside Out 2, Pixar has set the bar incredibly high for its next project. However, the renowned animation studio is already looking to surpass expectations with its upcoming film, Elio. Directed by Domee Shi, who helmed Turning Red, and co-written and co-directed by Adrian Molina, known for Coco, along with SparkShorts alum Madeline Sharafian, Elio promises to be a cosmic sci-fi adventure that stands out.

Starring Yonas Kibreab in the titular role, alongside a stellar cast including Zoe Saldaña, Remy Edgerly, Brad Garrett, Jameela Jamil, and Shirley Henderson, Elio appears to be a journey that transcends the ordinary. The new teaser trailer below gives a glimpse of what to expect:

Drawing inspiration from the expressive elasticity of Turning Red and Luca, the intergalactic charm of Wall-E, and the visually rich worlds of Elemental and Soul, Elio quickly establishes its own unique style. Despite being just a minute long, the teaser is packed with potential. The narrative hook, where the young hero, a self-proclaimed wannabe alien abductee with an Orion Nebula-shaped mole, gets exactly what he wished for and is whisked away to an interplanetary organization's HQ, sets the stage for an exploration of identity and belonging.

The official synopsis reads: "A space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession, Elio’s all in for an epic undertaking when he’s beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. When Elio is mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader, he must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be."

Elio is set to make its debut on 13 June, 2025, in cinemas, marking a return to the theatrical Pixar experience, rather than being exclusively available on Disney+.
