Earlier this year, Playground Productions unveiled its plans to revitalize the beloved kid-friendly video game series Backyard Sports with a fresh remaster, Backyard Baseball '97. This game made its debut this week, and Playground Productions has now disclosed that it will also remaster five other Backyard Sports titles. The upcoming remasters include Backyard Soccer '98, Backyard Football '99, Backyard Basketball '01, Backyard Baseball '01, and Backyard Hockey '02, all of which are now available for wishlisting on Steam. Release dates for these games have not yet been announced.
Playground Productions has also confirmed that Backyard Baseball '97 is fully compatible with Steam Deck, Steam's official handheld console. The company highlighted this compatibility in a statement: "This certification by the platform is a reflection of the dedication and effort put into reviving this beloved title for today's gaming audience." Furthermore, Mega Cat Studios and Crowd Control are collaborating with Playground Productions to host a charity stream for Backyard Baseball '97 this weekend. The BackyardSports.Online Charity Stream aims to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The livestream, featuring game developers, content creators, and professional athletes, will take place on Sunday, October 13 at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET on the BackyardSportsCenter Twitch channel.
