Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Brunei, marking the initial stage of his two-country tour, where he received a ceremonial welcome. The Crown Prince of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, personally greeted PM Modi as a token of special honor. Notably, this marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted on X that PM Modi was warmly welcomed by the Crown Prince. This visit is significant as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Brunei.
In his pre-departure remarks, PM Modi expressed his anticipation for discussions with the Sultan of Brunei, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, and other royal family members, aiming to elevate the historical bilateral relationship. Following his stay in Brunei, PM Modi is scheduled to visit Singapore on September 4.
PM Modi shared on X that his primary objective during the visits to Brunei and Singapore is to strengthen bilateral ties. He is looking forward to meetings with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in Brunei and various leaders in Singapore, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, to solidify relations in crucial sectors.
