India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, recently contacted the family of renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha to check on her health and offered comprehensive support for her medical treatment. Sinha, celebrated for her captivating folk performances during the Chhath festival, is currently in critical condition and receiving care at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

The 72-year-old artist has been grappling with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, since 2018. Her health deteriorated on Monday, necessitating the use of a ventilator. According to a statement from AIIMS, Sinha is "harmodynamically stable but remains under close observation."

Her son, Anshuman Sinha, has been keeping fans updated on her condition through social media and various media outlets. The decline in Sinha's health has elicited significant concern among her fans and supporters.

Sinha's career took off in the 1970s, and she gained national acclaim for her contributions to Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi folk music. Her rendition of Babool in the film Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! not only brought her fame but also critical appreciation. In 2018, she was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, for her artistic contributions. Additionally, she has won an Indian National Film Award, solidifying her status as one of the foremost voices in regional cinema.
