Poland's Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, expressed his conviction on Thursday that India could significantly contribute to the resolution of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He highlighted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has affirmed his readiness to facilitate a peaceful and just conclusion to the war. During a joint press conference in Warsaw with PM Modi, Tusk stated: "We started by addressing highly sensitive matters. PM Modi has affirmed his readiness to achieve a peaceful, just, and immediate end to the war. We are confident that India can play a vital and constructive role in this matter. This declaration is of great significance to us. PM, in ten hours you will be visiting Ukraine. We believe your visit will be of historic importance."

"Today, we have decided to elevate our relations to the status of a strategic partnership. This is not merely a label, but a reflection of our commitment to mutual cooperation across various domains," remarked the Polish Prime Minister. Tusk also discussed enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade and defense, adding: "Regarding the exchanges between India and Poland, we covered various topics. We aim to strengthen our cooperation in the fields of defense and trade. There are vast mutual opportunities."

He mentioned that Poland is prepared to participate in India's defense modernization. "We possess the requisite technological capabilities and experts... India is a global leader in Artificial Intelligence, and we are utilizing this technology in several areas, including defense. We are grateful for your invitation to our companies to invest in your country. We seek investment in the defense sector and look forward to cooperating."

PM Modi arrived in Poland on Wednesday, marking the first visit by an Indian leader to Central Europe in 45 years, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the strategic ties between the two countries. Tusk emphasized the importance of PM Modi's visit to Poland, stating: "This is a significant day for both our nations. It is a great honor for us to host the Prime Minister of India on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of our strategic ties. This visit is of utmost importance..."

He further noted that despite geographical and traditional differences, both India and Poland have a deep understanding of each other. "Undoubtedly, it is clear that the relations between our two countries are improving. This is crucial for the entire region. There is no dispute or conflict between our countries. We understand each other well, despite our geographical differences, distinct traditions, and histories. But history has taught both our countries to respect principles, borders, regional integrity, sovereignty, and the rule of law."

Tusk also congratulated PM Modi on his victory in the 18th Lok Sabha elections, saying: "The world admires India because its government is highly democratic. This is not commonly seen in that part of the world. Once again, I would like to congratulate you on your electoral victory. This is very gratifying. I am aware that the government in your country is elected according to the people's mandate..."

As the second day of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Warsaw commences, he has several engagements scheduled, including talks with President Andrzej Duda, followed by a lunch hosted by Tusk. The Prime Minister will also pay his respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and meet with business leaders and influential figures in Warsaw.

After concluding his engagements in Poland, PM Modi will travel to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This will mark the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine.
