Kipp Popert (Eng) and Steven Alderson (Aus) celebrated the perfect end to their seasons by winning their respective events at the inaugural G4D Tour Series Finale in Dubai. The two-day season-ending tournament at Jumeirah Golf Estates’ Earth course included a gross event and a net event, part of a revamp aimed at reinforcing the G4D Tour’s status as the most inclusive Tour in golf.
Popert, the top-ranked golfer on the gross World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD), entered the final round with a one-shot lead over Lachlan Wood but closed with a five-under 67 to finish at nine under for a five-shot victory. This marks his 13th G4D Tour title, the fifth of the year, and his first career win in Dubai.
“I'm thrilled,” Popert said. “I hadn't won this one yet, so it was a tournament I really wanted and knew I was playing well coming into. My focus when I get a lead is to just keep winning and showcase how good we are by shooting the lowest score possible.”
Alderson, playing off a three handicap, secured back-to-back G4D Tour victories in his first two starts, following his emotional win in Spain last month. He shot a 77 in the final round for a five-shot victory, mixing three birdies with three bogeys and two double bogeys to fend off South Africa's Robin Singh, who shot a 75.
“It's a huge feeling,” Alderson reflected, acknowledging the challenging conditions in the UAE. “It's great to receive invitations to play in these tournaments. You don't get invited all the time, so you have to seize the opportunity.”
