Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be wishing for a chance to spend Christmas with the royal family soon, according to reports. The holiday season is expected to be "bittersweet" for the couple as they miss celebrating the festive season with the royal family, The Mirror reports.
Meanwhile, OK! claims that Harry, 40, is keenly aware that he won't have any family from his side to share Christmas with and regrets that his children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, won't get to play with their cousins during the holiday as he did growing up. "For Harry, it reminds him that he doesn't have any of his side of the family to celebrate with," a source reportedly told OK! "The kids won't be seeing their cousins, and that was one of his favorite things growing up – all the cousins playing together at Sandringham." "It may well even hurt seeing all the royals together, going to church and just enjoying each other's company," the insider added.
Harry — who has admitted he was "addicted" to reading press reports about his wife — will undoubtedly see his older brother William and his sister-in-law Kate joining King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other family members for their traditional Christmas morning walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church whether they attend a holiday service. Harry and Meghan once joined the Windsor clan for that service prior to their stepping down from their roles as senior working royals in 2020. For Meghan, 43, the holiday is said to be "tough" because of her rift with her father, Thomas Markle.
"Meghan only has her mum [Doria Ragland], as there's almost zero chance of a reconciliation between her and her dad," an insider alleged to OK!. "[Harry and Meghan] both really wish that they could have all their families together and have a huge Christmas but they know that will never happen. So they have to make new memories and traditions with their children and those close to them."
The Post has reached out to reps for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment. Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, 60, recently spoke about Meghan’s falling out with their father. "Meghan has no idea what she is missing out on because when my dad [Thomas] goes, it will be too late," Samantha recently told the Daily Mail, adding that Meghan has had "missed opportunities."
Harry and Meghan will be spending Christmas at their Montecito, Calif. mansion with Meghan’s mom Doria, The Post has confirmed. The couple reportedly did not receive an invite to spend the holidays with the royal family. However, Harry’s uncle Earl Spencer — Princess Diana’s younger brother — did extend an offer for Harry and Meghan to join his mother’s side of the family at the Spencer’s ancestral home, Althorp in West Northamptonshire, England. Harry and Meghan are believed to have declined the invite due to their security concerns over traveling to the UK.
