Prince William's relationship with his father, King Charles III, has significantly changed since discussions about succession have intensified, according to recent reports. As the eldest son of the 76-year-old monarch and the late Princess Diana, the Prince of Wales is preparing to assume the role of future king. However, their relationship has reportedly faced some strain in recent months, as palace sources revealed to Us Weekly.

"The dynamics have shifted," an insider shared with the outlet, with another source adding that the sovereign "has longed to be the monarch for decades." Despite battling cancer, King Charles is determined to excel as a leader on the throne. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, William, 42, is already making preparations for his ascension.

"Like his father, he takes the royal role very seriously," the insider noted, emphasizing that discussions about succession within the royal family are sensitive. "There's occasional tension," the source added, suggesting that William is likely discussing the transition of titles and responsibilities, as well as the current state of the UK government, to ensure a smooth transition.

Palace insiders have also claimed that succession plans were drawn up after the king's coronation in May 2023. These plans were expedited earlier this year following Charles' cancer diagnosis in February. "The Palace sprang into action," the source explained, revealing that William and his team have agreed on their focus for the start of his reign and funeral plans for his father.

"For the most part, Charles is doing well," the source said of the king, but added that there are still "some concerns, and he knows his reign will end soon." Despite the strain between William and his father, their relationship pales in comparison to the challenges Charles faces with Prince Harry. There is reportedly a "mutual desire" for reconciliation between Harry and his estranged father, but William is said to be less inclined to welcome Harry back into the royal fold.
