Princess Eugenie is reportedly in a 'very difficult position' after receiving separate invitations to spend Christmas with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as King Charles and the rest of the royal family, according to a recent report.
The 34-year-old Princess of York now faces a choice between spending the holidays with the royal family at Sandringham or traveling 5,416 miles to Montecito, California, to join the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
'Harry and Meghan have invited Eugenie and Jack to join them in California during the holidays,' a source told the Express. 'It’s a very difficult position for Eugenie because she has also been invited to Sandringham.'
At this time, it remains unclear where Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank, and their two children, August and Ernest, will be spending Christmas. However, insiders suggest that the princess might consider celebrating Christmas with the royal family and then heading to the US to ring in the New Year with Harry and Meghan.
Eugenie has maintained close ties with the Sussexes since their departure from royal life in 2020. She is the only royal to have visited the couple at their California home and even appeared in their 2022 Netflix documentary, 'Harry & Meghan.'
Sources indicate that Eugenie is eager for her sons to spend time with Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, who have only visited the UK a few times since moving to the US. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan were excluded from the royal family’s annual Christmas gathering at Sandringham House, prompting them to make alternative plans for the festive season.
Instead, the couple, along with their children, are expected to celebrate Christmas with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. The Sussexes have consistently opted out of various royal events since stepping back from their roles in 2020. They have not returned to the UK for the festive season since attending the 2018 royal family gathering at Sandringham, the late Queen’s country estate in Norfolk.
Despite not receiving an invitation to Sandringham, the Sussexes were reportedly invited to spend Christmas at Althorp House, the childhood home of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. However, due to ongoing security concerns after losing their tax-funded protection earlier this year, the couple reportedly declined the invitation.
