When the PS5 Pro hits the market in November, a plethora of games will reap the benefits of its enhanced hardware, with Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part 2 being one of the standout titles. Already a visual masterpiece on the standard PS5—which itself was a significant leap from the original PS4 version—The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 Pro is set to deliver a consistent 4K 60fps experience. According to Digital Foundry, it appears that Naughty Dog is on track to achieve this goal.

In a recent tech breakdown, Digital Foundry showcased new footage of TLOU2 running on the PS5 Pro. By leveraging the PS5 Pro's hardware in tandem with Sony's PSSR upscaling software, TLOU2 is upscaled from a 1440p internal resolution at 60fps to reach its 4K target, resulting in a sharper and smoother gameplay experience compared to the base PS5. Notable improvements include more lifelike hair effects, enhanced environmental details, and a more profound depth of field, among other enhancements.

While watching a YouTube video may not fully capture the final quality compared to playing the game on a high-end gaming TV or monitor, the differences are still quite noticeable. "Overall, I'd say the PS5 Pro's version of The Last of Us Part 2 is quite successful, even in its pre-release state. It offers a convincing 4K image with excellent detail and solid image stability, all at a near-perfect 60fps," explained Oliver Mackenzie from Digital Foundry.

There are still some technical hiccups in this early build, though these are likely to go unnoticed by all but the most discerning players. Notably, this version of the game will retain the old PS5 fidelity and performance modes, along with an option to unlock the frame rate entirely on VRR panels. If you're seeking other games to experience with improved graphics, the PS5 Pro launch will offer a plethora of options. Titles like Gran Turismo 7 and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be among the upgraded games to explore on the $700 console, and even Microsoft's Diablo 4 is set to receive a PS5 Pro upgrade. For those pondering whether an upgrade is worthwhile, GameSpot recently had hands-on time with the PS5 Pro, and you can check out their impressions of the gaming console.
