Abu Dhabi's Qasr Al Watan library is now providing free membership to all UAE residents and citizens, granting them access to a wide array of titles and educational resources. This initiative, undertaken by the library in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, seeks to broaden access to knowledge and eliminate obstacles for avid readers. Interested individuals can secure their membership by registering through the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism website.
"This initiative is designed to foster lifelong learning and cultivate a reading culture, which in turn helps to elevate cultural awareness and bolster the Arabic language," stated Jumaa Al Dhaheri, Director of Specialized Libraries at the Abu Dhabi Center for Arabic Language. The library not only serves as a significant historical repository, showcasing pivotal cultural landmarks in Abu Dhabi, but also houses rare manuscripts and historical books. Additionally, it organizes regular cultural and educational events to promote a reading culture.
The library has seen a surge in visitor numbers, welcoming approximately 270,000 guests in the first half of the year, marking a 46% increase compared to the previous year. This growth underscores the public's growing interest in learning and cultural enrichment. Operating hours for the library are from 11:00am to 4:30pm, Sunday through Thursday.
