Queen Camilla has canceled all her royal engagements for this week due to a chest infection, according to Buckingham Palace. The 77-year-old royal is following doctors' advice to take a 'short period of rest' and is currently recuperating at home under medical supervision.
'Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest,' a palace spokesperson informed The Post. 'With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.' The statement also conveyed Her Majesty's apologies to those who might be inconvenienced or disappointed.
To focus on her recovery, Camilla will miss the opening of this year’s Field of Remembrance event at Westminster Abbey in London on Thursday. This annual event, held on November 11, pays tribute to veterans and servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts like the First and Second World Wars. Instead, Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, 78, will represent Her Majesty at the event.
Camilla has also withdrawn from King Charles III’s reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, scheduled for Thursday. Last month, the royal couple returned from a five-day official tour of Australia and Samoa, marking King Charles' first visit to Australia as monarch.
The royal family has faced several health challenges this year. In January, Kate Middleton disclosed that she had undergone abdominal surgery on doctors' advice. In February, it was revealed that Charles, 75, had been diagnosed with cancer, shortly before Princess Catherine, 42, announced her own diagnosis. The Princess of Wales has since completed chemotherapy and plans to resume more public duties as her recovery progresses. She returned to work in September, shortly after sharing a heartwarming video of her family following her cancer treatment.
