Queen Camilla has opened up about her health. The 77-year-old monarch scaled back her duties during the Qatar state visit as she recovered from a chest infection last month. In a recent update, Camilla revealed that the infection was a form of pneumonia.
On Tuesday, during a Buckingham Palace event for the incoming state visit, Camilla informed guests about her ongoing recovery. Although she is recovering well, she still experiences intermittent symptoms of post-viral fatigue, as announced by the palace on November 5th.
Prior to the Qatari state visit, it was noted that Queen Camilla would not attend the customary kickoff at Horse Guards Parade in London. Instead, she arrived at Buckingham Palace by car, appearing in good spirits for the event.
Later in the day, the Queen attended a luncheon welcoming the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani. It was also confirmed that Camilla would reduce her role at the glamorous state banquet on December 3rd due to her health. While she is expected to pose for photos with the Amir and Sheikha Jawaher, she will retire during the traditional receiving line but will attend the dinner and participate in farewells on December 4th.
The Amir of Qatar and his wife are in the U.K. at the invitation of King Charles, 76, as state visits are a way for Britain to strengthen diplomatic ties. The visit from Qatar was announced in October, with Kate Middleton and Prince William assisting with the welcome on December 3rd.
Princess Kate, 42, participated in the pageantry, from greeting the guests of honor to the Horse Guards Parade pomp and even the carriage ride back to the palace. The Princess of Wales is gradually resuming her royal duties after completing chemotherapy in September.
This year, Princess Kate has spent much of her time recovering following abdominal surgery in January, which was followed by a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. However, her husband, Prince of Wales, 42, recently provided a positive update on her health, indicating that Kate will take on a more active role in the royal family in 2025.
"I think, hopefully, Catherine will be doing a bit more next year," the Prince of Wales told reporters last month, according to The Guardian. "So, we’ll have some more trips maybe lined up."
In September, Kate announced that she is now "cancer-free." "I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment," she stated on X. "Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes."
