Almost a decade after its release, Rainbow Six Siege is set to introduce cross-play between PC and console platforms. This highly anticipated feature will be rolled out with the Year 9 Season 4 update on December 3, along with significant anticheat updates aimed at combating PC cheating issues.

Beginning December 3, console players will have the freedom to join the PC player pool seamlessly. However, PC players will not be able to join the console matchmaking pool. If a party includes at least one PC player, the entire group will be directed to the PC pool. Console users participating in ranked playlists with cross-play enabled will maintain a separate PC rank from their console rank.

Introducing cross-play to a game as mature as Rainbow Six Siege requires careful consideration, and matchmaking adjustments are just the beginning. Ubisoft is implementing robust anticheat updates to enhance cheater detection, ensuring a level playing field once cross-play is live. Players who receive a Mousetrap Penalty, designed to prevent console players from using mouse and keyboard, will be relegated to the PC matchmaking pool for 90 days. If these players disable cross-play, they will be unable to join matchmaking until they re-enable the feature. Additionally, any match involving a detected cheater will be automatically canceled without affecting the matchmaking rating. The Reputation Center is undergoing a significant overhaul to more accurately reflect actions that could result in warnings or penalties.

The Year 9 Season 4 update also introduces a new operator named Blackbeard, who wields a H.U.L.L. adaptable shield. The update includes balance adjustments for R.O.U. Projectors, Thunderbird's Kona Station, and ballistic shields, alongside various general tweaks. For a comprehensive overview, refer to the official season announcement post.
