Rami Samawi (The Els Club, Dubai) teed off in the first group of the day at 7.00 am, setting the stage for an exciting start to the Tommy Fleetwood International Pathway Series Presented by DP World at Al Hamra Golf Club, Ras Al Khaimah.
Samawi shot a first-round three under par 69, leading the Overall Division of the tournament. This event is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) qualifier, offering WAGR points and supported by The R&A. With a two-stroke lead, Samawi is poised for a strong performance in the upcoming rounds of this 54-hole event. His round included four birdies and a solitary bogey on hole two, showcasing his skill and consistency.
Chasing Samawi are UAE-based players Victor Larsson (The Els Club, Dubai) and Viktor Kofod-Olsen (Emirates Golf Club). Larsson, who won the inaugural Tommy Fleetwood International Series title last month at Jumeirah Golf Estates, is aiming for his second victory in the series. Leading the Female Division is Kanchana Duangsam (USA) representing the VSGA Golf Circuit in America, who shot a level par round of 72. Duangsam's round featured five birdies and five bogeys, placing her one shot ahead of Laetitia Fedeli (Italy) and two shots ahead of UAE player Faye Alblooshi (EGF) and Anayaa Sood (The Els Club, Dubai).
Paul Booth, General Manager at Al Hamra Golf Club, expressed his excitement about the tournament, stating, “It is thrilling to welcome a full field of 69 players to Al Hamra Golf Club for this prestigious 54-hole tournament, hosted by Tommy Fleetwood. We have seen some outstanding golf from many players, with 35 breaking 80 in round one, which is quite impressive.” He added, “We are eager to see how the juniors perform over the weekend, as there is still a long way to go with 18 holes to be played on both Saturday and Sunday.”
