Rangers made a commanding start to their Europa League journey with a 2-0 victory over Malmö in Sweden, a result that could have been even more convincing. Nedim Bajrami scored his maiden goal for the Ibrox club within the first minute, and Philippe Clement’s team missed several opportunities to extend their lead before halftime.

The Swedish champions, who had not lost to Rangers in four previous Champions League qualifiers, applied pressure after the break but were unable to capitalize. Substitute Ross McCausland sealed the win with a superb second goal in the 76th minute. This victory marked Rangers' most significant test since their 3-0 loss to Celtic earlier this month, and they passed with flying colors.

Clement’s side can now approach their upcoming Premiership game against Hibernian with confidence, followed by a home fixture against French side Lyon in the next Europa League match. Prior to the game, Clement faced selection challenges. With Jefté suspended and Ridvan Yilmaz among the injured players, 22-year-old Dutch defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo, on loan from Feyenoord, made his first start at left-back, while Mohamed Diomande replaced Dujon Sterling in midfield.

Malmö, leading the Swedish league by eight points and on course for their 24th title, were caught off guard by Bajrami's early goal. Cyriel Dessers missed a golden opportunity when his shot from a tight angle hit the post, but Bajrami was quick to follow up and score. Despite the early setback, Malmö regained composure and created chances, though Isaac Kiese Thelin's free-kick was ruled offside.

Rangers' goalkeeper Jack Butland was well-protected throughout the second half, and Malmö's Anders Christiansen missed a crucial chance, suggesting it might be Rangers' night. McCausland's precise 20-yard drive in the 76th minute ensured the victory, much to the delight of the traveling supporters.

Clement praised his team's performance, calling it their best of the season, but emphasized the need for improvement. He was particularly pleased with McCausland's progress, noting his hard work on strengthening his left foot.
