Raphael Colantonio, the founder of Arkane Studios, established the company in 1999 and dedicated over 18 years to its growth, including co-creating and directing the original Dishonored alongside Harvey Smith. Colantonio also helmed Prey in 2017 before departing Arkane that same year. He now leads the independent studio Wolf Eye, which released Weird West in 2022. Colantonio and his team are now working on a new project that he believes will resonate with fans of Dishonored and Prey.
In an interview with GI.biz, Colantonio expressed, "People who adored Dishonored and Prey will find themselves very comfortable. It's uncompromised." Although details about the game remain scarce, Colantonio hinted that it will feature player freedom and choice through its RPG mechanics. He described it as the "ideal project" for him and the studio at this juncture.
While Colantonio specifically referenced Dishonored and Prey, he cautioned against expecting the new game to mirror those titles. "Currently, I've been citing Fallout, Prey, and Dishonored because in my vision of the game, I understand why I'm saying this. But when you play it, you might think of something else. It's a method to convey what it is," he explained.
Meanwhile, Weird West differed from the experiences some anticipated from Colantonio. After leaving Arkane, he admitted, "I didn't exactly know what I wanted," but he was certain he wanted a "smaller" project. Weird West marked Wolf Eye's inaugural game and signified a "necessary phase" for the company.
Having spent many years crafting first-person, high-budget, complex games, Colantonio found it refreshing to create something with "less pressure." "Our games are always financially risky. We create them out of passion. Weird West embodied that same spirit, except with significantly less funding and a smaller team," he noted.
The only previews of Wolf Eye's new game have been off-screen video footage and concept art. Officially, Wolf Eye describes the game as a "first-person action-RPG set in a retro sci-fi environment." Stay tuned to GameSpot for the latest updates.
