Dubai-born golfer Rayhan Thomas expressed optimism about his performance in the DP World Tour Qualifying School after a strong start in Stage 2 in Spain. Thomas shot a two-under-par 69 in the opening round on Thursday, placing him in a tie for 23rd with three rounds remaining. The Fontanals Golf Club, one of four Stage 2 venues, presents a challenging 7,119-yard course that plays as a par 71.

Leading the field is Slovakia's Jakub Hrinda, who delivered an impressive nine-under-par 62, including nines of 30 and 32, despite a dropped shot on the final hole. The top 22 players from the 75-man field at Fontanals will progress to the Final Stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School, scheduled for Infinitum Golf in Tarragona, Spain, from November 8th to 13th, 2024.

“I played pretty decent today. I hit the ball well,” Thomas shared with Khaleej Times. “I had two unexpected birdies with wedges from the middle of the fairway. There is still a long way to go and 54 holes to play. I need to improve my putting and capitalize on wedges from the middle of the fairway. Overall, I need to maintain consistency and keep pushing forward – and aim for a low score.”

Thomas began his round on tee one, with early birdies on holes 3 and 7 followed by a bogey on 9, finishing the front nine in 34. A birdie on hole 11 and a bogey on the next hole slowed his momentum. Another birdie on hole 15, with pars on the remaining holes, secured a steady start.
