Dubai's Rayhan Thomas secures his place after completing 72 holes in the Final Stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School in Spain.
Rayhan Thomas, a Dubai native, expressed his desire for a low score after shooting a fourth-round 68, tying him for 47th place at the DP World Tour Final Stage Qualifying School in Spain. Previously, Rayhan had rounds of 67, 72, and 71, bringing his total to 278, eight under par, in the 72-hole event. Following the final round, the cut was made to the top 65 players and ties. These players will proceed to play two additional rounds to determine the top 20 players and ties after 108 holes, who will earn their cards on the 2025 DP World Tour schedule.
Rayhan started with birdies on holes 10 and 11, having teed off from the 10th on the Lakes Course. He followed with eleven pars, then from the fifth hole, a sequence of birdie, bogey, par, birdie, and par to submit his card, making the cut by just one shot. "It was a tough day – I didn't play particularly well," Rayhan told Khaleej Times after his round on the Lakes Course on Monday. "I managed to get the ball in the hole – that's what it's all about, whether you're playing well or not."
Rayhan will play two more rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a chance to secure a top 20 finish and earn his DP World Tour Card. "It's very straightforward – you either do it or not – it's fairly simple in theory, there's no grey area in Qualifying School," he said. "I know what I have to do, let's hope I can score low in the next two days. Thanks to everyone's encouragement. Wish me luck!"
In the fifth and sixth rounds, Rayhan and all players will tee off on the Lakes Course. Leading the field is Eduardo Molinari (Italy) with rounds of 65, 61, 72, and 68, totaling 266, with a two-shot lead. Molinari, 43, has three DP World Tour wins to his name. The cut fell at seven under par, with 85 players advancing to the next day (Tuesday).
Notable players who missed the cut include Gonzalo Fdez-Castano (Spain), Renato Paratore (Italy), winner of the 2023 UAE Challenge at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi on the Challenge Tour, Max Rottluff (Germany), Ryder Cupper in 2008 and two-time winner on the DP World Tour Oliver Wilson (England), Marc Warren (Scotland), two-time HERO Dubai Desert Classic champion and Ryder Cupper Stephen Gallacher (Scotland), Kalle Samooja (Finland), and Chris Wood (England).
