Having a child is often seen as a blessing across various cultures, and families frequently come together to support the new mother and welcome the newborn. Sometimes, expecting mothers travel to their families abroad to receive care and give birth in a more familiar environment. Regardless of where the birth occurs, if the mother plans to return to the UAE with her child, certain steps must be taken to register the child's birth. This registration ensures that the child gains access to their rights globally.

The process differs for UAE citizens and expatriates, as outlined below:

UAE Citizens
After the baby is born, parents must obtain a birth certificate from the country where the birth took place. Within 30 days of the baby's birth, the parents should visit the nearest UAE embassy to register the baby's birth. The embassy will facilitate the issuance of a return document for the baby, which allows the child to be included in the family book upon returning to the UAE.

Expats Residing in the UAE
If expatriates residing in the UAE give birth outside the country—whether in their home country or elsewhere—they must first obtain a birth certificate for the child. Once the baby has a passport, they can apply for a visa to bring the child to the Emirates.
