Storing a car for an extended period doesn't ensure the paint remains flawless. Over time, it can accumulate minor scratches and swirls from being moved or stored under a cover. This Ferrari F430 Spider, with less than 500 miles on it, has been in storage for 16 years. Despite this, the paint requires a comprehensive detailing to achieve true perfection.
Enter professional detailer Larry Kosilla, who recently brought the car to his shop for a meticulous wash and polish, sharing the process on his YouTube channel. Upon close examination, he found the paint marred with small swirls and scratches, far from perfect despite its limited travel since leaving the factory.
The video showcases 25 minutes of professional-grade washing, detailing, and polishing. Kosilla meticulously cleans the paint, underside, wheels, and soft-top window, and explores whether polishing before applying a ceramic coat enhances the paint's finish (hint: it likely does). Additionally, Kosilla was responsible for reinstalling the dashboard vents in the F430's interior, which had been sent out to be 'un-stickied' by another shop. This addresses the common issue in mid-2000s Ferraris where soft-touch rubber-plastic surfaces become sticky over time, ensuring occupants no longer encounter unpleasant, sticky vents.
