Nearly 25 years after its initial release, it's challenging to find a historical action film superior to Gladiator. With a sequel in the works, now is an excellent time to revisit this hard-hitting movie. Currently, you can purchase a 4K Blu-ray edition from Amazon for $30. This new reprint features a sleek steelbook cover and will be available for purchase starting November 12.
Released in 2000, Gladiator starred Russell Crowe as Maximus: a man stripped of his name, honor, and dignity by the conniving son of the emperor, Commodus. Determined to avenge the murder of his family by Commodus, Maximus is compelled to fight in the gladiatorial arenas of ancient Rome in his quest for freedom.
As with other 4K Blu-ray releases, you'll receive a second copy of the film on a standard Blu-ray disc and a digital streaming code. Notably, you can watch the film in its original theatrical cut or the unrated version, which includes additional gory scenes. The special features include:
Gladiator was a massive critical and commercial success upon its release, earning $465.4 million globally during its theatrical run. At the Academy Awards, it won five awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe's performance. The sequel, Gladiator 2, is set to premiere on November 15 and stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington.
