Richard Wigglesworth has been appointed as Steve Borthwick’s second-in-command in England’s finalized coaching lineup for the forthcoming autumn series. Wigglesworth’s responsibilities overseeing the attack have been expanded to include assisting with the overall game strategy for matches against New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Japan. His official title is senior assistant coach.
Felix Jones will continue to work remotely next month following the unexpected resignation of the Irish defence coach in August. Jones is under contract to work a 12-month notice period, and details about his future are expected to be disclosed on Wednesday when Borthwick announces his autumn squad.
Joe El-Abd, the Oyonnax director of rugby, has assumed control of the defence while continuing his duties with the French club until the end of the season.
“Richard’s profound understanding of the game and his exceptional tactical acumen make him an indispensable member of our coaching staff,” Borthwick commented. “He shares our passionate commitment to English rugby, and I am confident he will significantly contribute to raising the standards of this England team.” El-Abd, Tom Harrison, Kevin Sinfield, and Andrew Strawbridge complete Borthwick’s support team ahead of the first match against the All Blacks on 2 November.
