Filmmaker Ridley Scott and actor Paul Mescal are poised to join forces for the thriller 'The Dog Stars,' following their collaboration on 'Gladiator II,' as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The production is slated to commence in 2025. Scott will be teaming up with Steve Asbell and 20th Century Studios for this project. Based on Peter Heller's 2012 apocalyptic thriller, which Mark L Smith is adapting, the film is set in the near future after an unidentified disease ravages American society.

According to a synopsis provided by the producers, the story follows a civilian pilot who leads a solitary existence on a deserted Colorado airbase with his dog and a resilient ex-marine. Despite their contrasting personalities, the two men rely on each other to ward off marauding intruders. When a random transmission crackles through the pilot's 1956 Cessna radio, it sparks hope for a better life, prompting the pilot to follow the static-laden trail.
