Next month, director Ridley Scott is returning to the world of one of his most successful films, Gladiator. For Gladiator 2, Paul Mescal is stepping into the role of Lucius Verus, one of the few characters left from the original movie. Instead of waiting another 24 years to start the next chapter, Scott has already begun working on Gladiator 3. "I've already written eight pages. I've laid the foundation for a strong narrative," Scott revealed to Total Film. "If there's a Gladiator 3, I don't think we'd revisit the arena. But I had to go back there."

In a different interview with Premiere, Scott hinted at how Gladiator 2 will conclude, setting the stage for the potential third film. "I've set the stage," Scott said. "The ending of Gladiator 2 echoes The Godfather, with Michael Corleone finding himself in a position he never wanted, questioning, 'Now, Father, what should I do?' So the next film will focus on a man who doesn't want to be where he is." This suggests that Lucius might not only survive his arena battles but could also rise to rule the Roman empire. However, we'll have to wait until Gladiator 2 premieres on November 22 to find out his true destiny.
