Robert Eggers' Nosferatu remake is set to elevate F. W. Murnau's iconic gothic story of obsession and bloodlust to unprecedented heights. Fans have eagerly awaited a glimpse of Bill Skarsgard as the sinister Count Orlock, and while the second trailer doesn't fully reveal him, it does offer a clearer sense of the atmosphere Eggers is aiming for.
This film will be among several remakes of the classic, which itself was an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Interestingly, an official adaptation of Dracula didn't appear on the big screen until nine years later, with Universal's Dracula in 1931—though it took several liberties with the novel. Check out the trailer below.
While we don't see Orlock in full, we do catch a glimpse of his distinctive silhouette with its pointed features and elongated talons. The trailer bears a striking resemblance to Eggers' now-classic The Witch from 2015, around the same time his journey to bring Orlock back to the screen began. It's also worth noting that both The Witch and Nosferatu are edited by Louise Ford, which explains the similar stylistic approach.
Joining Skarsgard in the cast are Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Willem Dafoe, Eggers' frequent collaborator Ralph Ineson, and Simon McBurney. Nosferatu is slated to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
