Residents in Petah Tikva, near Tel Aviv, assessed the damage following rocket attacks from Lebanon on November 24, 2024.
Israel's military reported that Hezbollah launched approximately 160 projectiles into Israeli territory from Lebanon on Sunday. The militant group claimed its attacks targeted the Tel Aviv area and southern Israel. In a statement, Hezbollah announced its first-ever aerial assault using a swarm of attack drones on the Ashdod naval base in southern Israel. Subsequently, it stated that it had fired a barrage of advanced missiles and drones at a military target in Tel Aviv, as well as a volley of missiles at the Glilot army intelligence base in the city's suburbs.
The Israeli military did not confirm the specific attack claims when contacted by AFP but acknowledged that air raid sirens had activated in several central and northern Israeli locations, including the greater Tel Aviv suburbs. Later, the military reported that "approximately 160 projectiles fired by the Hezbollah terrorist organization have crossed from Lebanon into Israel," with some being intercepted.
Medical agencies reported at least 11 people were injured, including a man in moderate to serious condition. AFP images from Petah Tikva showed several damaged and burned-out cars, and a house with shrapnel marks. This wave of attacks follows at least four deadly Israeli strikes in central Beirut over the past week, one of which killed Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif. In a Wednesday speech, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem warned that the response to recent strikes on Beirut "must be expected on central Tel Aviv."
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army reported that a soldier was killed and 18 others injured, some severely, due to an Israeli attack on a Lebanese army center in Amriyeh. Although the Lebanese army is not directly involved in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of 19 Lebanese soldiers in the last two months, according to authorities.
