Manchester City's Rodri has expressed his determination to return from a severe knee injury before the end of the current season, despite being initially ruled out for the remainder of the campaign in September.

The Spanish midfielder, who recently won the Ballon d'Or, underwent surgery following an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained during a 2-2 draw against Arsenal. Manager Pep Guardiola had stated that Rodri would not play again this season.

However, the 28-year-old has set his sights on a comeback, as he revealed in an episode of "The Rest is Football" podcast published on Thursday. "My goal is to return this season," Rodri said. "I believe that maintaining a positive mindset will be crucial for me to not abandon the season prematurely." He added, "I'm aiming for a recovery period of six to seven months, but the physiotherapists will ultimately determine the timeline."

Currently, Manchester City is in second place in the Premier League and will seek to close the eight-point gap to leaders Liverpool when they face off on Sunday.
