Italian shipyard Rossinavi has introduced a new, 43-metre catamaran concept named Solsea. This yacht is designed to cruise in full-electric mode for 80% of a transatlantic journey, following the path set by Rossinavi's initial multihull project, the 42.8-metre Seawolf X.
Solsea has been crafted in partnership with globally acclaimed product designer Yves Béhar, who is the keynote speaker at this year's Superyacht Design Festival. This marks Béhar's inaugural venture into yacht design. "As an avid ocean explorer for the past 40 years, I have navigated, kited, and surfed across all continents, contributing to ocean conservation efforts," Béhar explained. "My profound respect for the oceans shapes every facet of the design."
This respect is evident in the yacht's battery and solar panel system, which is projected to cut operating costs by 80% during cruising and by 100% during winter layovers. Recycled ocean plastic has been incorporated into various manufacturing projects, including onboard furniture. The catamaran offers multiple living configurations, with the owner's suite designed as full-beam, featuring an integrated office, living space, and a private deck connecting both hulls. The dining area boasts a sea-inspired ceramic chandelier and custom dining chairs, while circular cork flooring by Amorim provides a sustainable and comfortable alternative to hardwoods.
The twin hulls presented a challenge for the shipyard, often appearing "visually cluttered" and lacking sufficient space for a beach club. The solution is a full-width hydraulic rear door that seals the boat and stairs during transit. When stationary, the door transforms into a platform for water sports and other sea activities. Another innovative feature is the pool cover, which doubles as both shade and a solar surface, moving up when the boat is stationary and down while cruising.
The sundecks are versatile, accommodating various dining and lounging arrangements, with the top deck featuring integrated sun lounge seats and a continuous wood bar leading to a "viewing lounge". According to the shipyard, all amenities and controls are accessible to the owner via an app. "Solsea was envisioned with active owners in mind – those who are enthusiastic about exploring the seas, engaging in ocean sports, and embarking on long-distance crossings without refueling," Béhar concluded. "She represents a return to a simpler, more respectful way to enjoy the ocean."
According to BOATPro, Seawolf X was officially handed over to her owner in August 2024. She then made her debut at this year's Monaco Yacht Show, where her interiors were unveiled for the first time.
