If you believed that the royals shun spookiness, think again. Like countless children worldwide, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis partake in Halloween festivities annually. The trio is currently enjoying a break from school with their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, at their Anmer Hall residence, a retreat they often use during school holidays.
While George, 11, Charlotte, 9, and Louis, 6, are on a break from Lambrook School, it's anticipated that the family will trade their tiaras for spooky masks this week. "Halloween is a holiday that the younger royals quite enjoy," King Charles' former butler, Grant Harrold, exclusively told The Post. "The older Royals don't really mark Halloween, so it's not so much of an occasion for them."
In past years, Princess Catherine has been seen actively participating in the spooky holiday. "When it comes to trick or treating, we know Kate is keen to keep things as normal as possible for the children and heading out trick or treating could very well be her wanting to keep up with tradition and ensuring the children don't miss out," the former palace staffer noted. "Kate is all about family and spending quality time with her loved ones will be top of her priorities this holiday."
Onlookers have previously spotted the princess shopping for Halloween costumes for her and William's children at a local supermarket. The family is also known for their annual trick-or-treating outings. In 2022, Princess Catherine joined in the festivities near their Kensington Palace home in London.
In one photo, Middleton was seen standing by a neighbor's gate with George, Charlotte, and Louis. While the snap was taken from a distance, the princess was seen holding a bag for her children's sweet treats. "For anyone doubting how down to earth William and Kate are … This is Kate with their kids knocking on our door in London trick-or-treating at Halloween," Middleton's neighbor Jay Rutland wrote.
Rutland is married to British heiress Tamara Ecclestone, and the couple lives just a few doors down from Kensington Palace. After a challenging year for the family due to Middleton's cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as the King's own cancer battle, Harrold suggests that the royals might prefer a small private Halloween party at home. "You could understand if [Catherine] wanted to keep within the confines of the royal homes with their own private party and inviting some of their friends over," Harrold said. "It's safer, it's in a more secure environment and a smoother operation."
It's safe to say that Princess Catherine's fondness for trick-or-treating was inherited from her mother, Carole. "Halloween is an Autumn highlight for me," Carole previously wrote on her now-defunct Party Pieces Instagram account in 2022. "I can still remember the fun and frights from my own childhood; the chance to dress up, decorate pumpkins and go trick-or-treating!" "I've even grown my own pumpkins this year, so I'm looking forward to decorating those with my loved ones," she wrote at the time.
