Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has declared the finalization of all tasks associated with the Al Jamayel Street Development Project, previously referred to as Garn Al Sabkha. This significant corridor connects Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, as announced by the RTA on Friday.

The project encompassed the construction of four bridges measuring 2,874 meters in total, capable of handling 17,600 vehicles per hour. Additionally, it involved the development of over 7 kilometers of roads and enhancements to surface intersections along the service road adjacent to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The completion also included the installation of street lighting, traffic signals, traffic management systems, a rainwater drainage network, and an irrigation system.

“Al Jamayel Street serves as a vital link between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, facilitating smoother traffic flow between these major routes via First Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street,” stated Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s director general and chairman of the board of executive directors.

“The project has led to a 40% reduction in travel time for traffic from Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road en route to Al Qusais and Deira, decreasing peak travel time from 20 minutes to 12 minutes. Furthermore, it has cut travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street towards Jebel Ali Port by 70%, from 21 minutes to just 7 minutes,” Al Tayer added.

The road extends from the intersection with Sheikh Zayed Road to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, traversing First Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street. It spans 7 kilometers, featuring four lanes in each direction, with a combined capacity of approximately 16,000 vehicles per hour. It serves numerous residential and development areas, including Jumeirah Lakes Towers, The Gardens, Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Park, The Springs, Emirates Hills, Dubai Production City, and Jumeirah Golf Estates. The population in these areas is estimated to be around 250,000 residents, according to the RTA.
