Russia announced on Thursday that its military had seized control of a village in eastern Ukraine, located just 16km from the significant city of Pokrovsk. Pokrovsk is strategically positioned alongside key supply routes that support Ukrainian forces in the region.
Ukraine's unexpected assault on Russia's Kursk region on August 6 has been interpreted by military experts as an effort to compel Russia to reallocate troops from the Ukrainian battlefront. However, the Russian defense ministry reported numerous victories along the frontline, spanning from the Kharkhiv region to Luhansk and Donetsk. It confirmed the capture of the village of Ivanivka, part of an evident strategy to secure the road from Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. The ministry also stated that Russian units had successfully engaged and defeated Ukrainian forces in several battles within the region.
Ukraine maintained on Thursday that there was no indication of a reduction in Russian military pressure along its eastern border, over a week since its incursion into Russian territory. It reported the most intense combat in weeks near Pokrovsk.
