The Russo Brothers are gearing up for their MCU return, but before they dive into the multiversal chaos of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, they have one more non-IP blockbuster in the works. Based on Simon Stålenhag's visually captivating 2018 graphic novel, The Electric State—starring Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, and Woody Harrelson—is a Netflix-bound, sci-fi fantasy set in an alternate 90s where humanity and AI clashed. It's a departure from the grittier, more grounded films like Cherry and The Gray Man that the Russos have pursued post-Endgame.

The first images from the movie have been released, showcasing a world filled with robots, wigs, and post-apocalyptic landscapes. Written by the Russos' frequent collaborators, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, The Electric State follows a young woman (Michelle, played by Brown) on a perilous journey across a robot-infested US, accompanied by a mysterious toy robot and a roguish smuggler (Pratt). Together, they uncover a mechanical conspiracy at the heart of America.

In a statement shared with Netflix, the Russos emphasized that despite its sci-fi elements, The Electric State is not just a 'bots-go-boom' film. “The story felt like a fairy tale to us,” says Anthony Russo. “We really wanted to play into those very elemental aspects of a fairy tale.” The impressive cast also includes Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, and Woody Norman, with Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, and Jenny Slate lending their voices to the movie's robots.

Will The Electric State be electrifying? Could it be an unexpected surprise? How does the Planters mascot fit in? And why does Chris Pratt exude a Ryan Gosling in The Nice Guys vibe? We'll uncover some of these mysteries when The Electric State hits Netflix next year.
